Who Was The Voice?

Most Disney fans have a favorite character, and one of the things that makes each character special is the voice that is usually provided by a celbrity actor or actress. I've just created a special section of our site for our featured Voice Actor Autographs where we take the autograph of the voice actor and match it with some attractive art to create unique collectibles. In addition, each movie's page has a list of the main characters and the names of the actors who gave them their voice. Who Dat? Follow the link and find out!

Clarence Nash as Donald Duck Autograph

Clarence "Ducky" Nash created the voice for Donald Duck in the 1930's and performed for Donald and Disney until shortly before he passed away in 1985. In those later years, he trained Disney animator Tony Anselmo to do Donald. This piece is a tribute to Mr. Nash. It contains an 8x10" publicity photo of Clarence with a Donald Duck doll, matched with a page from a Studio press release for "Mickey's Christmas Carol" (in which Clarence was the only original voice) inscribed to a young fan, "Hi Mike, Donald Duck & Clarence 'Ducky' Nash". The mat measures a big and bold 16x20".

"The Lion King" marked the pinnacle of the revival of Disney animation. Matthew Broderick voiced the featured character Simba as an adult. John Candy as Orville From The Rescuers Autograph

When production started on "The Rescuers Down Under" (1990) Fibber McGee, the original voice of Orville had passed away. So Disney tapped veteran comic actor John Candy to fill the role. John rose to fame on "Second City Television" in the 1970's, and appeared in many movies like "Stripes" and "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" before passing away in 1994. This oversized artwork features a picture of Orville mounted over a signed 8x10" photo of John Candy. The piece measures approximately 11x22".

Stan Freberg as Beaver Autograph

Stan Freberg as Beaver from Lady and The Tramp Autograph

Who could forget the industrious Beaver from "Lady and The Tramp"? He was voiced by an amazing performer and comedy writer, Stan Freberg, whose name might not be familiar to you unless you are of a certain age. He actually started in Hollywood doing voices for animation for Warner Bros. in the late 1940's. Later, he had a series of comedy albums and radio programs that were popular in the late 1950's though the 1960's that often featured stars of animation June Foray and Daws Butler. He produced several popular television commercials that were outrageously funny. One for Jen's Pizza Rolls featured Clayton Moore as The Lone Ranger with Jay Silverheels as Tonto. My favorite was the one for Sunsweet Prunes highlighting the fact that they had no pits in which a man complains, "They're still rather badly wrinkled, you know" to which the announcer replies, "Today the pits; Tomorrow The Wrinkles; Sunsweet marches on!" Freberg won a total of 21 Clio Awards for his commercials. But, of course Lady and The Tramp fans will always love his portrayal of the industrious beaver who frees Tramp from his muzzle. This piece features a page from an autograph book signed by Stan Freberg, with a 3x5" picture of this amazing man, with a 5x5" picture of the Beaver with Lady and Tramp in the background, each covered with a clear sheet of mylar in an 12x16" mat.

William "Billy" Costello Popeye Autograph

William Costello was a drummer when he was cast as the original voice of Popeye the Sailor in the Fleischer Bros. cartoons in the early 1930's that was based on the King Features comic strip character. Costello only voiced the character for a couple of years, but he set the stage for those who followed him. He passed away in 1971. This piece features a very rare signed 3-½x5" publicity photo of Mr. Costello inscribed "Best Wishes, Popeye, Billy Costello" and is matted with a picture of the character. The mat measures 14x11"
