Animation Gallery Cels & Artwork

Inside the Disney/MGM Studios Theme Park in Walt Disney World is a building dedicated to the art of animation. This attraction shows guests how traditional cel animation is produced. First, guests are shown a short film starring Robin Williams and Walter Cronkite that describes the process of animation. The presentation continues with a tour of a working animation studio right in the park. Guests walk along a glass-enclosed walkway above the artists' workstations. Along the way, monitors display more filmed presentations that explain each step in the process being performed in the studio below.

At the end of the tour, guests exit through the attatched gallery and souvenir store which offers a broad range of items from production cels to postcards. Starting in 1989 when it opened, the Gallery has offered a souveneir cel featuring Mickey Mouse. These are hand-painted reproductions produced on site. Naturally, these cels are mostly bought by people as momentoes of their family vacations and so they tend to be tightly held by their owners, thus leading to some scarcity - particularly of the first few editions.

1st Edition 1989 Disney/MGM Animation Gallery Cel

This is the first of the hand-painted limited edition cels that were sold at the Animation Gallery in the Disney/MGM Studios Theme Park during 1989. It is the first in the series and was discontiued at the end of that year, unlike so many other cels in the series that were sold for several years. So they are tightly held by collectors and are rarely available for sale. The attractive chrome-finish frame and custom black mat are included as shown.

Disney/MGM Animation Gallery Cel

This is a hand-painted limited edition cel that was sold at the Animation Gallery in the Disney/MGM Studios Theme Park during 1990. It is the second in the series. It has a 9x11" cel opening in a 12x15" mat/folder.

Disney/MGM Animation Gallery Cel

This is a hand-painted limited edition cel that was sold at the Animation Gallery in the Disney/MGM Studios Theme Park and is called "Travelling Mickey." It's an interesting piece because it shows five steps in the animation process from a rough drawing, through clean-up, inking, and finally painting. It has a 9x11" cel opening in a 12x15" mat/folder. It is the cel only with no mat or packaging.
