Who could forget the industrious Beaver from "Lady and The Tramp"? He was voiced by an amazing performer and comedy writer, Stan Freberg, whose name might not be familiar to you unless you are of a certain age. He actually started in Hollywood doing voices for animation for Warner Bros. in the late 1940's. Later, he had a series of comedy albums and radio programs that were popular in the late 1950's though the 1960's that often featured stars of animation June Foray and Daws Butler. He produced several popular television commercials that were outrageously funny. One for Jeno's Pizza Rolls featured Clayton Moore as The Lone Ranger with Jay Silverheels as Tonto. My favorite was the one for Sunsweet Prunes highlighting the fact that they had no pits in which a man complains, "They're still rather badly wrinkled, you know" to which the announcer replies, "Today the pits; Tomorrow The Wrinkles; Sunsweet marches on!" Freberg won a total of 21 Clio Awards for his commercials. But, of course Lady and The Tramp fans will always love his portrayal of the industrious beaver who frees Tramp from his muzzle. This piece features a page from an autograph book signed by Stan Freberg, with a 3x5" picture of this amazing man, with a 5x5" picture of the Beaver with Lady and Tramp in the background, each covered with a clear sheet of mylar in an 12x16" mat. |
