The must-have item for any Disneyland collector is this original guidebook titled, "The Story of Disneyland" that was sold when the park first opened on July 17, 1955. This illustrated booklet was created before the park was completed, so there are no actual photographs of the park in it, but it contains great images of all of the original "lands" like Tomorrowland, Frontierland, and Fantasyland. Late in 1955, it was replaced by the "Disneyland In Natural Color" guidebook which did contain photographs of the various attractions. But this first guidebook remains an iconic souvenir from that memorable year when the world was introduced to "The Happiest Place On Earth".
This first guidebook sold for $1.00 even though it cost Disney over $1.00 to print them. Disneyland sold them with mailing envelopes so that those first visitors could send them to friends and family who would then be tempted to visit Disneyland themselves. By all accounts, these souvenirs were so successful at spreading the news about the park that this is why guidebooks remain a staple of Disneyland merchandise to this day.
We only stock copies that are in very good to excellent condition - that is, while there may be a slight crease here and there (which is to be expected after 60 years), we guarantee that it will be worthy of adding to your collection without hesitation. We're proud to offer this great vintage Disney collectible for sale.
