This is from the series of prints called "Disney Classics" that were sold in Disneyland in the late 1960's and early 1970's to supplement or replace the cels that they had traditionally sold in the park. These are prints made from original animation art using a high-quality process called "dye transfer" that was remarkable for the color quality and stability. Until the 1970's, dye transfer was the preferred method of reproducing images from transparencies like slides or movies because it produced rich colors and archival quality prints. These prints are so good that you have to look very closely to be sure that what you're seeing isn't actually a real cel. This one features the stars of Disney's "The Jungle Book", Mowgli and Baloo the bear in a wonderful pose. The piece measures 7x10" in a 13x15" mat overlaid on the original Disneyland mat and still has the original gold seal on the back. |
