Only Warner Bros. has ever managed to mount a serious challenge to Disney for the title
of "best in classic animation." Most of the Warner Bros. cartoons we all know and love were shown in
theaters years before many of today's fans were born. And therein lies much of Warner's advantage over their
contemporary competitors. Warner Brothers cartoons were primarily aimed at adult moviegoers. Therefore, the
humor could be more sophisticated and deal more deliberately with current events, especially during and
immediately following World War II. When, around 1960, making cartoons for the movie theaters stopped being
profitable, Warner Bros. shut down their animation unit. Sadly, the studio threw away the vast majority of the
original artwork they had created over the years. But television brought Chuck Jones and Friz Freleng back
to the animation table, and they continued to make some wonderful cartoons for many years thereafter. Here
we offer for sale some samples of those fabulous characters.

Chuck Jones Golden Books CelAn original cel by Chuck Jones for a children's book by Golden Books,
produced in 1980. It's just an elegant image of a parrot that carries the well-known
style of this legendary animator. The cel is 8x10 in a 14x18" mat, which carries the

Bugs Bunny 50th Birthday Magazine with SericelIn 1990, on the heels of a similar promotion for Mickey Mouse, Warner Bros. issued
a commemorative magazine that celebrated Bugs Bunny's 50th Anniversary. The magazine included a 7x10
inch printed cel of Bugs sitting in a movie theater, complete with a nice background. The magazine
itself has all sorts of treats for fans of the Wascaly Wabbit, including interviews with Chuck Jones
and Friz Freleng, the two men most associated with Bugs over the years. Real animation fans will also
get a kick out of the dozens of "birthday cards" from famous comic strip artists from Charles
Shultz to Matt Groening. There are articles galore, including Leonard Maltin's picks of the 10 best
Bugs Bunny cartoons, and Steven Spielberg introducing "Tiny Toons" Roughly 60 pages in all.
Just a wonderful and very affordable collectible. |
Tweety Bird Song Sheet MusicTweety Bird fans probably didn't know that there was actually a song titled,
"I Taut I Taw A Puddy-Tat", but here's the proof. We offer this item as much for
the cover art as anything else. The 2-page sheet music was originally sold in 1950. It measures 9x12" and is in
good condition with a few signs of age - some foxing but no creases. |
