Sterling Holloway

Sterling Holloway was an amazing man and a fine actor. Born January 4, 1905 in Cedartown, Georgia. He went to drama school and was in the theater for many years. He started in Hollywood in the early 1930's, just as silent pictures were being replaced with "talkies," playing country bumpkin roles, with his unusual voice and Southern drawl. Many of us Baby Boomers remember him as the absent-minded Professor Kelso from the Superman television series. Disney fans were treated to his voice many times. He narrated several Disney animated short subjects, most famously "Peter and the Wolf," and Amos the mouse in "Ben and Me," but he was very much admired for his character voices - starting with the stork who delivers the baby elephant to Mrs. Jumbo in 1941's "Dumbo," followed notably by his voice of The Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland, Kaa the snake in 1967's The Jungle Book, and, of course, his most famous character voice - Winnie The Pooh. He was also the voice of Roquefort in "The Aristocats." He was made an Official Disney Legend on October 22, 1991. Sadly, Sterling passed away November 22, 1992 of a heart attack.

This autographed 5x7 inch photograph obviously dates from the late 1930's or early 1940's when he was a popular character actor. There is some fading of the print near the signature which has been exaggerated by the scanner here, but the signature itself is deep, dark, and clear.

Hans Conreid Autograph

Hans Conreid was a versatile movie actor whose voice and demeanor ranged from silly to sophisticated as the role demanded. Animation fans will know him best for his many cartoon voices, especially as the villain Snidley Whiplash from The Bullwinkle Show. But he also did many voices for Disney. He made many appearances on the weekly Disney TV series (Wonderful World of Color, etc.) as the voice of the Magic Mirror. But his most memorable role was that of the voice of Captain Hook from 1953's Peter Pan. His gravel-ground English accent left an indelible mark on audiences. This piece measures 12x16 inches. The picture of Hook is about 7x9 inches and the autograph card is about 4x5 inches. All items are covered by a sheet of clear mylar to give them a nice glossy finish and for protection. The small photo of Mr. Conreid is taken from his obituary in a local newspaper from January, 1982.

Pat Buttram autograph #27-0276

Pat Buttram as The Sherrif of Nottingham

Pat Buttram was a character actor in "B" cowboy movies and serials in the 1940's and 1950's, including a stint as a sidekick on the old "Roy Rogers" television series. Sadly, Mr. Buttram passed away in 1994. He is best known to Americans as the travelling conman Mr. Haney in the 1960's sitcom Green Acres, in which he starred with Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor. But he also did the voices of several Disney characters, including the evil Sheriff. This piece is in an 11x14" mat, the artwork is 7x7", and the rare signed photo is 6x7".

June Foray as Lucifer

The Queen of Cartoon Voices, June Foray is actually best known for giving voice to a male cartoon character - Rocky the Flying Squirrel. She's also the voice of Witch Hazel and Granny in several Warner Bros. cartoons dating back to the 1950'. The first voice she did for Disney was Lucifer the evil cat in Cinderella in the early 1950's commemorated here. This piece is in an 11x14" mat, the artwork is 5x7", and the signature card is 2x3". Its an excellent piece to round out a Cinderella collection.

Betty Lou Gerson autograph #27-0181

Betty Lou Gerson as Cruella de Vil

Cruella certainly stands out as a villainess in many ways. Those eyes, for one thing, and, of course, her scratchy voice given her by Ms. Gerson. Sadly, Ms. Gerson passed away in 1999, but isn't this a great image of Cruella? The artwork is 7½x6", the autograph card is 2x4" and is inscribed "Betty Lou Gerson, Cruella de Vil." The mat is 14x11".

Vincent Price as Ratigan

The title says it for us here. It's the late prince of horror movies in his most famous role as an animated character - Ratigan. Sadly, Vincent Price died in 1993. He was, of course, the voice of the evil Ratigan from the 1980's feature "The Great Mouse Detective." The piece is made up of a 3x4 inch autograph card mounted with a great picture of the character, covered with a sheet of clear mylar for protection and for a nice glossy finish, and mounted in an 11x14" acid-free mat.

Vincent Price as Ratigan

Again, of course, we see the evil Ratigan from the 1980's feature "The Great Mouse Detective." Did you know Vincent Price also did some special narration for The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland Paris? This piece is made up of a 3x4 inch autograph card mounted with a 6x7 inch picture of the character, covered with a sheet of clear mylar for protection and for a nice glossy finish, and mounted in an 11x14" acid-free mat.

Lucille Bliss as Anastasia from Disney's Cinderella

Ooh! One of Cinderella's wicked step-sisters. Such a pretty lady gave voice to that villainess. And like so many of the Disney character voice artists, she's absolutely charming in person. The artwork is 8x8" over a 4x6" signed black and white photograph in an 11x14" mat.

Howard Morris as Gopher

Who could forget the industrious Gopher from Winnie The Pooh? He was voiced by an amazing performer and comedy writer, Howard Morris, whose name might not be immediately familiar to you until we mention his most famous performance as the hillbilly rascal Ernest T. Bass from the old Andy Griffith Show. Mr. Morris has performed in dozens of movies and television shows. He was also a writer and performer on the original "Your Show Of Shows" with Sid Ceasar and Immogene Coca. But Pooh fans will always love his portrayal of the industrious creature with the amusing lisp. This piece features a 9x7 inch picture of the Gopher over a 3x5 inch autographed card, all covered with a clear sheet of mylar in an 12-1/2x14-1/2 inch acid-free mat.

Buddy Hackett as Scuttle

Popular comedian Buddy Hackett brought his own special zaniness to the character of Scuttle the seagull in the 1989 animated feature "The Little Mermaid". Here he's shown explaining to Ariel that the mysterious object she's found is called a Dinglehopper. No home should be without one, of course. Sadly, Buddy Hackett passed away on June 30, 2003 at the age of 78. He was noted for his outrageous nightclub act and for his hilarious appearances on "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson" from the 1960s through the 1990s. He appeared in a handful of movies, most notably in "The Music Man" where he reprised his Broadway role and "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". Yes, I'm a fan of this amazing man. The piece itself is a signed 3x5 index card with a 7x8 inch print, covered in mylar and mounted in an 11x14 inch mat.

Phil Harris as Baloo

Few performers had such a unique personna as Phil Harris. A jazz musician by trade, he had his own band that travelled the country in 1936 when Jack Benny hired him for his radio program. Phil was portrayed as heavy-drinking lout of a musician who was usually only slightly more sober than his band members. He had that classic Southern charm and the syrupy drawl to go with it. Hadnsome, funny, and more than able to hold his own in the presence of the comedy legend Jack Benny, there was nobody like him. He stayed with the Benny program for nearly 16 years, interrupted only by World War II. He married the gorgeous movie star Alice Faye who gave up her movie career to raise their family. Phil and Alice had their own radio show for about 6 years. Phil passed away in 1995 at the ripe old age of 91.

This piece shows the cuddly, scatter-brained bear Baloo from 1967's "The Jungle Book". The picture of Baloo measures approximately 7x7-1/2 inches. The autographed card is inscribed "'Baloo', Hi, Phil Harris" and measures approximately 3x4 inches. All covered in clear mylar and mounted in an 11x14 inch acid-free mat.

Adriana Caselotti Autographed Snow White Lobby Card

The casting of young Adriana Caselotti to be the voice of Snow White was another case where the gods were smiling on Walt Disney. Barely 20 years old at the time, she had a rich, crystal clear voice that matched the animated version of the fairy tale princess Snow White to a tee. Beyond that, as a public person she was humble, gracious, and generous with fans. Adriana Caselotti passed away in January of 1997 at the age of 81.

This piece is an actual lobby card for the 50th Anniversary re-release of Snow White in theaters in the UK. It's inscribed as Ms. Caselotti always signed collectible pieces, "Voice of Snow White - Adriana Caselotti". The lobby card measures 8-1/2x10 inches and is mounted in an 11x14 inch acid-free mat.
