Walt Disney: The FBI Files

The FBI file on Walt Disney will fascinate any Disney enthusiast. It contains dozens of newspaper articles that document Walt's political activities and other events as they were seen at that time, as well as the many FBI internal memos on Walt and the Studio. This book takes all of the legible documents from the FBI files on Walt Disney and puts them in chronological order to help demonstrate their relationship to events at the Studio and in Walt's life. The discussion about Marc Eliot's book shows why the speculation about Walt's parentage is foolish, as well as showing how only one of Eliot's "shocking allegations" proved to be true and how many others were demonstrably false. The book talks about the 1941 strike against the Disney Studio and how the effects of that strike are felt in the Studio to this day. Last, but not least, the memos show how the FBI's paranoia about Communism distorted their judgement, culminating with the bizarre conclusion that the Walt Disney Studio "has probably been infiltrated."

In the past month, I have begun the process of making my book available again. The problem has been that it was originally created on a very old computer and the original files are no longer available. So I have begun the task of scanning the camera-ready originals and using OCR software to extract the text. It's slow going, but I've got a good start. Once I have the book in an editable form, I will be able to give it the revisions that it so desperately needs, given the 16 years since I wrote it.

The good news is that the initial scanning and OCR work is finally done. Now I need to edit, update, proofread, and reformat the book so that it's presentable and worthy of your interest. My intention is to make it available either as a downloadable e-book or on CD-ROM, and possibly both. My goal is to have it ready by June 1, 2010. The original paperbound version of the book sold for $24.99, but I intend to sell the e-book for less than half of that price.
