A stalwart of the Roosevelt era, Eleanor Roosevelt was the model for modern First Ladies and one of the most famous women in American history. It is often said that she ran the country when Franklin D. Roosevelt was incapacitated by polio. She wrote this letter in 1960 in response to a letter my wife's father sent to her asking about books about FDR, in which she recommends one by Frank Freidel. The note measures 6x7 inches, and while she needed a new ribbon in her typewriter, her signature is dark and clear. |
