My wife and I were huge fans of the comic strip "Bloom County" in the 1980's. The adventures of Milo, Opus the penguin, and Steve Dallas made it worthwhile to get out of bed in the morning. In 1987, my wife wrote a fan letter to creator Berke Breathed asking for a signed photo. He graciously replied on Bloom County stationery with his unique wit very apparent. The half-size letterhead note is hand-signed and has a small picture of Opus at the foot. Also included is the envelope he used from the same stationery. Like many comic strip artists, Breathed is apparently very shy about himself, and his autograph is fairly rare, which makes this signed personal letter very collectible. |
