I admit to having a special passion about this subject since I wrote by book about Walt, "Walt Disney: The FBI Files" on the heels of the tabloid trash book "Hollywood's Dark Prince". But beyond the many biographies about Walt, the Studio and the theme parks have been prolific publishers. Over the decades, thousands of books have been written about Disney animation that capture the essence of the Disney magic while showing us how those amazing feats were achieved. These Disney books are from our personal collection. Most of them are in new or like new condition.

The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation This first edition from Abbeville Press demonstrated the genius of two of Walt's Nine Old Men - co-authors and life-long friends Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston. These men were unbelievably adept at demonstrating the essentials of animation to non-artists. We were fortunate enough to hear these men give brief lectures at Disneyana conventions in the late 1980's and early 1990's. If you're a Disney fan, this book is an essential reference work. Its only second to owning a copy of the movie "Frank and Ollie" which tells the story of how these two men met and became such close friends while making that Disney magic for so many years. A small tear on the dust jacket at the top of the binding keeps this from being 'excellent'. Inside is pristine. Obtained directly from the publisher in the 1980s. 192 pages, 11x9 inch hardcover. The Haunted Mansion: From the Magic Kingdom to the Movies Book Author Jason Surrel has created a detailed history of Disney's Haunted Mansion. This delicious paperbound book tells the story of how the Disney Imagineers created the original Disneyland attraction and how the Studio later turned the background legend into a movie starring Eddie Murphy (a movie that was actually pretty decent, especially for a Disney 'family' movie). Lots of fabulous pictures from the concept art, through the movie production. 132 pages. Paperbound.

From conceptualization through production, we get to meet the artists who created this fan favorite, as well as getting to see the nuts and bolts of the production. 192 pages.

Bill Peet Autobiography Bill Peet earned his reputation as an author of children's books, but he also spent several years with Disney - first as an artist working on features like Cinderella, Dumbo, and Pinocchio, but most famously as one of the artists who worked on the Donald Duck cartoons. His amusing autobiography gives us a glimpse into how artists see the world, as well as giving Disney fans an insider's tour of how they make the magic. 192 pages. Paperback.

James and the Giant Peach Disney brought back the team that produced Nightmare Before Christmas to produce this fantastic version of Roald Dahl's "James and the Giant Peach." Its one of the most under-appreciated Disney films of all time, and this book shows the artistry behind that fine effort. Its only a few pages, but nicely done in an 9 x 11 inch hardcover. TOMART's Illustrated Disneyana Catalog A definitive guide to the values of Disney collectibles since the 1980's, TOMARTs guides are the bible of Disney collectors the world over. Author Tom Tombusch shows the earliest toys licensed by Disney. Long out of print, this condensed edition was published in 1989. Values have certainly changed since then, but the background information is still sound and the prices shown are still an accurate guide when used in comparison. For serious collectors of older Disney toys, this is a must-have. From our personal collection, there's only some minute flaws in the cover. Nearly pristine. 312 pages - Paperback. Just one!
