This has all happened before, of course. Peter Pan was another project that had been on the
Studio's planning board for over a decade before it was released in 1953. World War II postponed many projects like
"Alice in Wonderland" and "Cinderella". The charming
children's book by J.M. Barrie made a wonderful animated feature, and gave fans some of Disney's most-loved
characters, notably Tinker Bell the pixie. Walt brought back the lovely young English
girl Kathryn Beaumont, who had just done Alice in Wonderland, to provide the voice for
Wendy Darling. Hans Conreid had a dual role as the voice for both Henry Darling and the bumbling pirate,
Captain Hook.

Hans Conreid as Captain Hook AutographHans Conreid was a versatile movie actor whose voice and demeanor ranged from
silly to sophisticated as the role demanded. Animation fans will know him best for his many
cartoon voices, especially as the villain Snidley Whiplash from The Bullwinkle Show. He worked
quite a bit in television, and had a recurring role as Uncle Tanoose on the 1960's sitcom "Make Room For Daddy"
which starred Danny Thomas. But he also
provided many voices for Disney. He made many appearances on the weekly Disney TV series (Wonderful World
of Color, etc.) as the voice of the Magic Mirror. But his most memorable role was that of the voice
of Captain Hook from 1953's Peter Pan. His gravel-ground English accent left an indelible mark on
audiences. This piece measures 12x16 inches. The picture of Hook is about 7x9 inches and the
autograph card is about 4x5 inches. All items are covered by a sheet of clear mylar to give them
a nice glossy finish and for protection. The small photo of Mr. Conreid is taken from his obituary in
a newspaper from January, 1982. |
Candy Candido as the Indian Chief AutographJonathan "Candy" Candido was a musician and radio performer with a famously
deep voice. His first performance for Disney was as the Indian Chief in "Peter Pan". He also
did voices in "Sleeping Beauty" and "Robin Hood", and was the voice of Graveyard
Executioner in the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland. He passed away in 1999. This piece features a 3x5" index card
signed by Mr. Candido with a fun self-characature, and includes an 8x10" lobby card in a
12x16" mat. What a treasure for any Peter Pan fan! |
