Great Mouse Detective

Based loosely on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary character Sherlock Holmes, The Great
Mouse Detective was created during the lean years of Disney animation. Walt had been gone for over a decade, and only a
few of the Nine Old Men remained on the staff. Indeed, the Company was seriously considering discontinuing all
animation during this era. While not a box-office hit, The Great Mouse Detective, television and home video has earned
the film many fans and featured the reedy, sinister voice of Vincent Price as the villain Ratigan. Price's career had
started him in romantic roles and some light comedy, but he became best known for his work in horror movies. This was also
one of the first movies in which Disney used some computer-generated imagery to enhance the scenery in
the clockwork sequence.
